I Built 22 Financial Tools in a Weekend — Here's Why

This isn't a flex about AI. This is a story about what happens when a CEO gets frustrated enough to build what he wished existed.
The Frustration
I run a $70M+ construction company. I've been a CFO, a board member, an interim CEO. I've rescued acquisitions, turned around struggling companies, and built AI systems that run major parts of my operations.
And I was still watching business owners I know — smart, capable people — make bad financial decisions because they didn't have the tools to make good ones.
One friend was pricing jobs at 20% markup thinking he was getting 20% margin (he was getting 16.7% — losing $50K/year on a math error). Another was sitting on $200K in receivables over 60 days and didn't know it. Another hired two people he couldn't afford because he never calculated the true all-in cost.
These aren't dumb people. They just didn't have the right tool at the right time.
The Build
So I sat down with Claude (yes, the AI you're probably thinking of) and started building. Not a prototype. Not a mockup. The real thing.
Here's what shipped in one weekend:
- 13-week cash flow forecaster with 3 scenarios
- Margin analyzer by service line
- Pricing calculator (margin vs. markup, never confuse them again)
- Break-even calculator with what-if scenarios
- Hiring cost calculator (true all-in cost, not just salary)
- AR aging tracker with DSO and collection prioritization
- Customer profitability analyzer (who makes you money, who costs you)
- Company valuation estimator (SDE, EBITDA, revenue multiples)
- KPI scorecard builder with 25+ metrics
- Monthly budget builder
- Debt paydown planner (avalanche vs. snowball)
- Overhead analyzer
- Owner's pay calculator
- Revenue per employee benchmarker
- Monthly close checklist (34 items)
- CEO-CFO meeting agenda templates
- Business health diagnostic (15 questions, 5 categories)
- AI CFO Advisor (ask any question, get real advice)
- Monthly Pulse Report (AI analyzes your P&L in plain English)
- QuickBooks integration for automated analysis
- ROI calculator
- And the entire nonprofit toolkit — 8 more tools for 501(c)(3)s
Every single one of these tools has an “AI Analysis” button that feeds your data to Claude and gets you a CFO-quality analysis of your specific numbers. Not generic advice. Your margins. Your customers. Your cash timeline.
Why Speed Matters
This isn't about bragging that I built fast. It's about what speed means for the business owner.
Every day a business owner doesn't know their true margins, they're leaving money on the table. Every week they don't look at their cash forecast, they're one surprise away from a crisis. Every month they don't analyze their customers, they're subsidizing unprofitable work.
The old way to solve this was “hire a consultant for 6 months to build you a custom dashboard.” That costs $50K-$100K and takes half a year.
The new way is: the tools exist right now. For free. Go use them.
What I Actually Built
I didn't build a SaaS product. I built the toolkit I use to run my own company — and made it available to everyone.
Every tool comes from a real playbook. The cash flow forecaster is how I manage cash at CHE. The margin analyzer is how I evaluate service lines. The hiring calculator is how I decide whether to add headcount. The valuation tool is based on real M&A work I've done.
It's not theory. It's not a case study. It's the same framework I use every Monday morning to run a $70M+ company.
The Question
What would you build if AI let you ship a complete platform in a weekend?
Because here's what I've learned: the tools aren't the hard part. The hard part is knowing what to build — and that comes from 25 years of actually doing the work.
AI doesn't replace experience. It amplifies it. And when you combine real operating experience with AI's ability to ship at speed, you can build things that would have taken a team of 10 engineers six months.
That's not a future prediction. That's what happened last weekend.
